Cultural Advice
The Karijini Experience collaborates closely with Banjima Traditional Owners to bring this event to life.
- Do not throw objects into the gorges or pools and avoid removing any materials, such as rocks or plants, from the park.
- Refrain from bringing alcohol, shouting, drawing graffiti, or engaging in disrespectful behavior in the gorges.
- Respect the Traditional Owners, Rangers, and observe all Park signs.
- Be mindful around Yinda (water sources/springs) and gorges, as these areas hold deep cultural significance.
- Cultural information shared will be provided through performances and presentations — please do not ask community members about cultural lore business, as much of it is private.
- If elders are speaking together, please wait until you are acknowledged and invited to join the conversation.
- Banjima advice: If there is lightning in the area, avoid wearing red.
- Always ask permission before taking photos of or with the Elders. If they decline, please respect their decision, as there may be important reasons.
- Many families are currently grieving. Out of respect, avoid using the names of deceased persons. If your name matches that of a deceased individual, consider referring to yourself as Jukari [Surname] or using your initials instead.
- Do not fly airplanes or drones directly over the gorges or springs.
- Banjima Rangers will be available for assistance. If they cannot answer your questions, they will direct you to someone who can.
Thank you for helping us preserve the cultural integrity and spirit of this sacred land.
